Who We Are

Our History

Nine years ago, my husband and I had a ‘special idea’ to have a son in 2015, who was later diagnosed with autism. I found myself deeply depressed, battling postpartum depression while navigating the overwhelming challenges of caregiving. I turned to self-therapy, using cognitive behavioral techniques and spiritual mindfulness, that i learned as a life coach to help me cope. There was still a feeling of solitude and it wasn’t until I began laughing, crying, venting, helping and sharing resources with other parents, which gave me the strength and inspiration to move forward. Those experiences drove us to start Our Special Ideas, Inc., an organization born from my passion as a behavioral therapist, spiritual life coach, corporate trainer,  financial advisor, and our belief that every child is special and unique regardless of what the labels are placed on them. Together, we can empower parents and caregivers to celebrate the individuality of every child. connecting with other parents facing similar challenges.   It wasn’t until my husband and I branched out and connected with others that we realized how many parents and caregivers were silently suffering. Stigma, shame, embarrassment, sensitivity barriers, culture, and so many other reasons often keep families from reaching out for support. This awareness deepened our commitment to creating Our Special Ideas, Inc., a safe space where parents and caregivers can connect, share, and find the resources and understanding they deserve. No one should have to navigate this journey alone!

With Special Love, The Farris Family.

She pursued higher education at Worcester State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Public Health with a minor in Spanish, which allowed her to work as a translator and assist individuals facing language barriers in healthcare settings. Since 2020, Carla has been an integral part, working on federal grant data Initiatives to support community-based behavioral health services.

In addition to her professional achievements, Carla is a devoted mother to two young boys, ages 4 and 3, both diagnosed with ASD. Her personal journey has deepened her passion for advocacy, awareness, and supporting Spanish speaking families navigating similar experiences.
